Senator Imee Marcos opposed plans to modify the 1987 Constitution because she considered it "anti-Marcos."

Speaking to reporters earlier this month, Marcos stated that initiatives to amend the Constitution will not have majority support in the Senate, calling them "dead on arrival."

The current constitution was drafted in the aftermath of the EDSA People Power Revolution, which ended the 20-year dictatorship of then-President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., whose son and namesake is now the country's current president.

Senator Robin Hood Padilla was leading the movement to change the Constitution once more.

Padilla stated that only the economic provisions would be subject to change.

However, certain industries, as in previous charter change efforts, rejected it.

Meanwhile, Senator Marcos has not ruled out amending the 1987 Constitution, but she believes there are more pressing issues for the country to solve, such as the economic devastation caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.
