Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala has reached a new milestone in her professional career, climbing to a career-high World No. 29 in the latest Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings with 1,525 points.

The rise comes after Eala advanced to the Round of 16 at the Indian Wells Open on March 11, a performance that has boosted her standing on the global stage.

Eala enters the Miami Open as the 31st seed, earning a first-round bye. She will face the winner of the clash between Seigmond and Marcinko in the Round of 64.

Analysts and fans alike are eyeing a potential early showdown with World No. 3 Iga Swiatek in the Round of 32, a matchup that carries high drama given their history.

Last year at the Miami Open, Eala made headlines by defeating Swiatek in a stunning quarterfinal upset, 6-2, 7-5, before continuing her remarkable run past other Grand Slam champions like Ostapenko and Madison Keys, ultimately falling to 2024 US Open finalist Jessica Pegula in the semifinals.

The 20-year-old has shown remarkable consistency and resilience, balancing back-to-back tournaments while steadily climbing the WTA ladder. Fans will be watching closely to see if she can repeat her Miami magic and continue her rise in the elite ranks of women’s tennis.
