

Aleson Shipping Lines, Inc. confirmed that its passenger vessel, MV Trisha Kerstin 3, sank off Baluk-Baluk Island, Basilan, in the early hours of January 26. In an official statement, the company said, “From the moment we received the distress call, we immediately activated our quick response measures and deployed all available vessels in the area.”
The company is coordinating closely with the Philippine Coast Guard and local authorities as search and rescue operations continue. “We have been working tirelessly in close coordination with the Philippine Coast Guard and all concerned authorities as search and rescue operations continue,” Aleson Shipping stated.
According to the latest update from the Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao as of 11:21 AM, February 26, 2026, a total of 317 individuals have been rescued, including 332 passengers and 27 crew members. Unfortunately, 18 casualties have been confirmed, and 24 remain missing. Rescue operations are ongoing.
Aleson Shipping expressed condolences to those affected and extended gratitude to local government units and officials, including Basilan Governor Mujiv Hataman and Mayor Arsina Kahing-Nannoh, for their prompt assistance. “We extend our deepest gratitude to all local government units and agencies who responded without hesitation and offered their invaluable assistance during this critical time,” the company said.
The cause of the sinking has yet to be officially determined, and investigations are underway to assess the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities are also monitoring the area closely to ensure the safety of any remaining passengers and crew.
