Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolan “Kerwin” Espinosa has surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) following the issuance of an arrest warrant by the Cebu City Regional Trial Court Branch 14 for a murder case.
The development was confirmed by NBI head agent and spokesperson Palmer Mallari, who said Espinosa voluntarily presented himself to authorities. Two of his co-accused have also surrendered and are now under the custody of NBI-Cebu.
Authorities have yet to disclose details surrounding the murder charge, including when and where the alleged crime took place, as court proceedings are expected to clarify the circumstances of the case.
In a video message posted on his Facebook account, Espinosa expressed his intention to face the charges head-on and asked the public supporters and critics alike to pray for his safety during the legal process. He also assured constituents that municipal services and priority projects will continue under the leadership of his sister, Vice Mayor Mariel Espinosa, who will oversee the town’s operations during his detention.
The NBI said Espinosa and the other accused will undergo standard booking procedures and will be presented before the court that issued the warrant as part of due process.
