Veteran comedy actress Ai-Ai delas Alas has confirmed her separation from her husband, Gerald Sibayan, marking the end of their six-year marriage.
In an emotional interview on "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda", delas Alas shared the painful moment she received a message from Sibayan last October 14, stating his desire to part ways. The breakup comes just days before the actress celebrates her 60th birthday on November 11.
Delas Alas recounted the shock of receiving Sibayan's message while in the Philippines, as he informed her of his wish to have children and admitted to feeling unhappy in their relationship.
"Hiwalay na kami noong last month pa. Hindi ko makakalimutan, October 14 na nagchat siya...Bakit ngayong oras na ‘to? Sana hintayin mo man lang ako makauwi sa Amerika," said delas Alas.
She further admitted to feeling blindsided by the split, especially since their marriage had been free from conflicts.
The actress also shared her thoughts on what might have driven Sibayan to end their relationship, pointing to a possible shift in his priorities now that he’s settled in the U.S. and working.
"Nag-iba na rin priorities… Meron na siyang karapatan to fly,” she said.
Addressing rumors that Sibayan may have been using her to secure legal residency, delas Alas clarified that she personally petitioned for his green card as a supportive wife.
"Husband ko pa rin siya. Help ko na ‘yun sa kanya para magkaroon ng legal status sa Amerika," she said. She also confirmed they have a prenuptial agreement, easing concerns over financial motives.
Delas Alas and Sibayan were married in December 2017 and renewed their vows in 2022.
