With the 2023 FIBA World Cup title already out of reach for Jordan, the squad now focuses on becoming the top Asian team in the tournament, and earn a spot in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.
Coach Wesam Al-sous remains optimistic in the chances of Jordan getting an Olympic ticket even though, so far among the Asian countries, only Japan has seized a victory in the tournamnet.
Wesam Al-sous stressed that Jordan will need to win against Egypt and Mexico if the team wants to qualify for the Paris games.
"We do believe that Japan has a one step ahead of us for sure. What we need to do, we need to do our jobs, we need to win both games," the Jordanian coach said on Wednesday, August 30, in a press conference.
"I don't want to regret that Japan loses and game, and we didn't do our job. Then, we only blame ourselves. Because, we will definitely come up and fight to win both games," he added.
In the first round of the World Cup, Jordan suffered back-to-back losses against Greece (92-71), New Zealand (95-87), and USA (110-62).
Jordan is facing Egypt on Thursday, August 31, and Mexico on Saturday, September 2, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
