Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) spokesperson Col. Medel Aguilar said that some legislators are already taking action for the continuous maintenance of the BRP Sierra Madre located in the Ayungin Shoal.

In a report by RH 52 Edniel Parrosa, Aguilar thanked the legislators’ voluntary initiative to ensure the condition of the Philippine Navy ship in the Ayungin Shoal.

Moreover, the official did not provide the full details of the operational information about the kind of maintenance that their agency will do on the warship. However, he mentioned in an interview that the AFP will make sure that the BRP Sierra Madre is a ‘habitable place’ for the navy personnel.

In a separate forum organized by the National Defense College of the Philippines alumni, House Speaker Martin Romualdez signed the government’s plans to develop some island features in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

Romualdez also mentioned that the development of an unspecified project that will allegedly support the BRP Sierra Madre is among the government’s plans, refusing to disclose the details about the project in the WPS.

Earlier, the AFP spokesperson clarified that the Ayungin Shoal is in the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone (EEZ) based on the 2016 Arbitral Award, and China shouldn’t nose off at whatever the Philippines does to the Ayungin Shoal.
