The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said on Wednesday that it is currently investigating the alleged sighting of an underwater drone in the waters off Bohol province that was reported last week.
"The AFP, through the Visayas Command, has prioritized the investigation into the reported discovery of unidentified equipment floating at sea," stated Col. Xerxes Trinidad, the chief of the AFP public affairs office.
He further explained that all relevant AFP units and forces, particularly the Naval Forces Central, are actively working together to gather information to "ascertain the nature of this incident."
At this point, Trinidad mentioned that the AFP does not possess the necessary equipment to conduct a forensic investigation.
"We urge the individual who discovered the equipment and posted it on social media to immediately coordinate with the nearest military or naval units to ensure the proper handling and disposition of the item," he added.
Emphasizing the AFP's dedication to national security, Trinidad called on the public to remain alert.
"We encourage everyone to participate in safeguarding our nation by promptly reporting any suspicious activities or discoveries to the proper authorities, including the AFP," he said.
