The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has confirmed that the Navy-Marine Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System (NMESIS) is now in the country following its deployment by the United States Marines.
In a report by RH Edniel Parrosa, it was mentioned that the system will be used in the 40th edition of the Balikatan Exercises between Filipino and American troops, set to begin on April 21.
At a press briefing held in Camp Aguinaldo, Balikatan spokesperson BGen. Mike Logico disclosed that the anti-ship missile system is now positioned at an undisclosed location.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth first announced the deployment of NMESIS to the Philippines during his recent visit to Manila.
Meanwhile, Philippine Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro welcomed the opportunity for Filipino soldiers to learn advanced technologies that could serve as an effective deterrent in the future.
The U.S. has also expressed its willingness to extend the deployment of the NMESIS in the country if needed for future joint exercises, similar to the Typhon Medium-Range Capability Missile, which was first brought to the Philippines last year.
