One of the vocalists from the legendary Filipino pop-rock band Aegis, Mercy Sunot, passed away this morning, November 18 (Philippines time), after battling cancer, the band announced through their Facebook page the same day.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Mercy, one of the beloved vocalists of AEGIS Band. She bravely fought her battle with cancer but has now found peace and rest,” Aegis said in a Facebook post.
“Mercy’s voice wasn’t just a part of AEGIS—it was a voice that brought comfort, joy, and strength to so many. She has touched countless lives, inspiring fans and lifting spirits with every song she sang. Her passion, warmth, and unforgettable presence on stage will forever be cherished in our hearts,” they added.
Despite the beloved singer’s passing, the band encouraged fans to celebrate the incredible life and legacy that she left behind. They thanked Mercy for the music, love, and the memories.
Aegis was supposed to make their powerful return as a group for the upcoming “Halik Sa Ulan: A Valentine’s Special” in February 2025, filled with nostalgia from their past tracks.
Prayers after Surgery
Before her passing, Mercy posted a short video on TikTok, asking the public to pray for her to get better. The singer mentioned that she had surgery earlier, but suddenly had difficulty breathing.
“Tapos na yung surgery ko sa lungs, pero biglang nahirapan akong huminga. So dinala ako sa ICU. Tapos ngayon may inflammation yung lungs ko, (kaya) ginagawan nila ‘yun ng paraan,” she said.
Additionally, she was given steroids to lessen the inflammation in her lungs. In a tearful plea, the Aegis singer asked that the public send their prayers so that her health complication comes to an end.
“Pag-pray niyo ako guys, please. Pag pray niyo ako na matatapos na ‘tong pagsubok na ‘to,” she said.
