The exclusive contracts between ADOR and the NewJeans members remain valid, despite the group’s announcement late Thursday through an emergency press conference.
An hour after the K-pop group’s press conference, their label ADOR disputed the group’s claims, stating that the former had no grounds to announce their termination from the agency. In a statement, ADOR mentioned that the termination of the contracts was executed before they got the chance to respond to NewJeans.
ADOR clarified that the group’s allegations against the breach of contracts do not constitute grounds for termination.
“The exclusive contracts between ADOR and the NewJeans members remain valid. Therefore, we expect them to continue their scheduled activities ahead together with ADOR as they have until now,” ADOR said in their statement translated by Soompi.
Additionally, the label had requested several meetings with the members, but it was not carried out. Consequently, ADOR expressed their intent to have open and honest discussions going forward.
“ADOR will do our best to support NewJeans in their activities and help them grow further as global artists,” it ended.
NewJeans had been entangled in the long-running conflict between former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin and HYBE Chairman Bang Si-Hyuk. The group attempted several times to voice out their thoughts and opinions on the matter.
In the past month, group member Hanni testified before the South Korean parliamentary to discuss her experiences with workplace bullying and harassment.
