Award-winning actor John Regala, also known for his feisty onscreen characters since the 1980s, died at 55 on Saturday, June 3.

According to Victoria Scherrer, Regala died of cardiac arrest due to liver and kidney complications, and the actor had been under critical care for three weeks at the New Era General Hospital.

Known for his versatile acting, Regala started as a member of "That’s Entertainment" in the 1980s and pursued becoming an action lead and villain in such films as "Boy Kristiano," "Isa-Isahin ko Kayo," "Primitivo Ebok Ala: Kalaban Mortal ni Baby Ama," and "The Vizconde Massacre: God Help Us."

He also appeared in the horror comedy "Zombading: Patayin Sa Shokot Si Remington" and was nominated for best-supporting actor in the 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival film "Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story."

Regala also starred in a number of teleseryes, culminating in "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano" prior to the pandemic.

Scherrer expressed gratitude to the Iglesia ni Cristo group for supporting Regala throughout his terminal illness.

Meanwhile, Regala's family is still completing funeral plans for the actor, who will rest at St. Peter Chapels in Tandang Sora, Quezon City.
