Nearly 100 public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers lost their licenses after testing positive for drug use in random tests conducted by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) during the Holy Week.
No fewer than 98 drivers across various transport terminals yielded positive results in the random drug tests, resulting in the revocation of their licenses, announced LTO Chief and Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza in a joint press conference on Monday, May 5, as reported by RH 5 Val Gonzales’ report.
“Positive sila, and because of that, we already revoked their licenses. Revoked na ‘yan with perpetual disqualification,” he said.
“We noted also the regions kung saan pinakamarami. Region 9 ang nag-stand out … Tinitingnan natin ‘yung correlation kasi ang Region 9, tagusan po ‘yan eh,” he added.
(Their results came back positive, and because of that, we already revoked their licenses. They’re revoked with perpetual disqualification. We also noted the regions with the most positive results. Region 9 stood out. We’re examining the correlation because Region 9 is a transit point.)
Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon stressed that this was done to support the enforcement of laws and road safety rules, in line with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive.
