The No to PUV Phaseout Coalition on Thursday, Dec. 14, said the transport strike managed to paralyze public transport by 90 percent on its first day.

The coalition’s caption read.

As of 9 p.m. last night, the coalition recorded 90 percent paralysis on every major route in Metro Manila and 85 percent in every region outside the metro.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier remained firm on the December 31 franchise consolidation deadline, stating that the government “cannot let the minority cause further delays,” after citing that 70 percent of the public utility vehicle (PUV) operators nationwide “consolidated” to the modernization program.

The coalition said they would push through with the strike for PUV operator's and drivers’ livelihoods.

“Kaya tuloy ang ating welga! strike para sa kabuhayan, sa pagbabasura ng franchise consolidation, at sa makamasang pampublikong transportasyon!” it said.
