Members of the Philippine National Police - Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) seized 84 firearms during an operation on Monday, March 20, at a condominium unit in Makati City.
The raid stemmed from a search warrant against Zhang Xiaodong, also known as Lu Ming Chung, an undocumented alen who remains at large.
Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec. Benhur Abalos Jr. identified Zhang as a suspected ringleader of a Taiwanese crime syndicate.
"Wala, hindi nahuli, wala sa bahay," Abalos said during a press conference on Tuesday, March 21, at the PNP national headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
The DILG chief said that the group of Zhang engages in the production of illegal narcotics, telecom fraud operations, and other illegal activities in the Philippines.
Abalos said that the seized firearms include 13 rifles, six submachine guns, and 65 handguns.
"Tuloy-tuloy ang ating kampanya laban sa mga loose firearm, illegal firearms, at laban na rin sa mga private armed group, lalo na ito pa ay mga dayuhan pugante," Abalos stressed.
