Eight more overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Lebanon arrived safely at NAIA Terminal 1 on Sunday, October 13, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
This brings the total number of Filipinos repatriated through the government’s voluntary repatriation program to 450 OFWs and 28 dependents.
The returning OFWs each received Php 75,000 in financial assistance from both the DMW AKSYON Fund and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA). Additionally, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) provided Php 20,000 in livelihood assistance, while the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) offered skills training vouchers.
The DMW stated that it expects more OFWs to return from Lebanon as the government intensifies efforts to ensure their safety amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
The violence, which has escalated in recent weeks, has displaced over 1.2 million people, prompting hundreds of Filipinos in Lebanon to seek repatriation.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has maintained Alert Level 3 in Lebanon, signaling voluntary repatriation for Filipinos in the country.
