The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Wednesday reported that it monitored 78 aftershocks in some areas in Cagayan, following the magnitude 6.4 earthquake that struck Dalupiri Island in Calayan.
Based on its latest earthquake information, 13 of the 78 aftershocks were plotted earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 1.8 to 3.7.
The magnitude 6.4 quake was located approximately 26 kilometers northwest of Dalupiri Island and occurred at around 7:03 PM.
The earthquake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 10 kilometers.
According to Phivolcs, intensities of the earthquake were felt in various areas:
- Intensity IV (moderately strong) -Sinait, ILOCOS SUR
- Intensity III (weak) - Penablanca, CAGAYAN; Sinait, Vigan City, ILOCOS SUR
- Intensity II (slightly felt) - Ilagan, ISABELA
- Intensity I (scarcely perceptible) - Casiguran, AURORA; Candon, Narvacan, Tagudin, ILOCOS SUR
According to the Cagayan Provincial Information Office (PIO), Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba had already ordered all Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) to inspect the buildings, schools, and other infrastructures within their areas of jurisdiction to ensure resident's safety.
"Kailangan din aniya na masuri ang mga bahay upang hindi maihalintulad sa nangyaring insidente sa isla ng Calayan kung saan dalawang menor de edad na magkapatid ang nasaktan matapos bumagsak ang konkretong pader ng kanilang bahay," it said.
