A magnitude 6.7 earthquake jolted Sarangani, Davao Occidental on Tuesday morning, January 9, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
In a bulletin, PHIVOLCS said the epicenter of the quake was traced 183 kilometers southeast of Balut Island.
The quake, which was reportedly tectonic in origin and had a 94-kilometer depth focus, occurred at around 4:48 AM.
PHIVOLCS intially recorded 7.1 magnitude quake.

The state seismologist said aftershocks from the quake are expected.
Meanwhile, in another bulletin, PHIVOLCS clarified that there was "no tsunami threat" to the Philippines following the magnitude 6.7 earthquake.
"No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data. This is for information purposes only and there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake," it said.
