At least seven passengers were rescued after their motorcycle was submerged in the waters off Km 11, Sasa, Davao City, the Philippine Coast Guard said on Friday, Jan. 5.

According to PCG, the incident happened on January 4, 2024, when a motorcycle was on its way to the Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) encountered big waves and strong currents, resulting in the motorcycle being submerged.

"The dedicated team from Coast Guard Sub-station Km 11 successfully rescued all seven victims and promptly handed them over to the appropriate authorities for medical evaluation to ensure their well-being," the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM) said in a press release.

"The victims' ordeal serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of maritime travel and the importance of swift response in times of distress," it added.

Meanwhile, the CGDSEM extends its commendation to the rescuers for their exemplary efforts in rescuing the victims and upholding the commitment to maritime safety.

"The collaborative and efficient response reflects the Philippine Coast Guard's dedication to ensuring the security and well-being of those navigating the waters in the region," it remarked.
