Two individuals reportedly sustained injuries after a magnitude 6.4 earthquake jolted Dalupiri Island in Calayan, Cagayan on Tuesday evening, according to Calayan Municipal Information Office.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page, Calayan Information Office said two minors were hurt after the concrete wall of their house fell.
"Sila ay agad dinala sa Calayan Infirmary. Ligtas naman na ang dalawang bata," it said.
The two were identified as Baby Caty Dela Cruz, 13 years old, and Carmela Dela Cruz, 12 years old.
Calayan Mayor Jong Llopis declared suspension of classes at all levels in the municipality on Wednesday, September 13, for the conduct of inspection to check the damages in school buildings.
Meanwhile, in an update on Wednesday, Cagayan Provincial Information Office (PIO) said some Calayan residents have spent the night outisde their homes, while others temporarily took shelter in evacuation centers.
"Sa ngayon, patuloy pang inaalam ng Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO)-Calayan kung mayroon pang ibang nasaktan maliban sa dalawang menor de edad na magkapatid na unang naipaulat na nasaktan sa nangyaring pagyanig," it said.
Based on Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) bulletin, the epicenter of the 6.4 quake was located approximately 26 kilometers northwest from Dalupiri Island.
The earthquake, which was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 10 kilometers, occurred at around 7:03 PM.
According to Phivolcs, intensities of the earthquake were felt in various areas:
- Intensity IV (moderately strong) -Sinait, ILOCOS SUR
- Intensity III (weak) - Penablanca, CAGAYAN; Sinait, Vigan City, ILOCOS SUR
- Intensity II (slightly felt) - Ilagan, ISABELA
- Intensity I (scarcely perceptible) - Casiguran, AURORA; Candon, Narvacan, Tagudin, ILOCOS SUR
