The offshore patrol boat BRP Andres Bonifacio (PS-17), a member of Naval Forces West (NFW), saved six persons from a sinking motorboat at Ulugan Bay in Palawan on Sunday, April 9.
Upon noticing the situation, Commander Paul Michael Hechanova, the commanding officer of BRP Andres Bonifacio, sent a rescue squad to assist the M/B Dexeter's passengers.
The passengers—among them a pregnant woman—were all given immediate medical attention after they were rescued.
Ison claimed that the boat was also used to tow the wrecked speedboat back to Barangay Macarascas.
In order to "secure the protection of our sovereignty as well as the safety of life at sea," Ison stated the Western Command will continue to maintain watch through NFW.
