The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) reported on Sunday that it had distributed PHP34 million in medical assistance to a total of 5,184 eligible beneficiaries nationwide from February 13 to 17.
The state lottery agency said in a statement that the funds were distributed to beneficiaries through its Medical Access Program, citing the most recent data (MAP).
At least 636 indigents from the National Capital Region received PHP7.8 million in assistance, 1,160 from Northern and Central Luzon received PHP7.9 million, and 1,416 from the Southern Tagalog and Bicol Region received PHP6.7 million.
In the Visayas, 1,042 people received PHP6.6 million in medical assistance, while 930 in Mindanao received PHP5 million.
The MAP, formerly known as the Individual Medical Assistance Program, supplements medical assistance for impoverished Filipinos, particularly for hospitalization, chemotherapy, dialysis, and post-transplant medications.
Revenue from PCSO games across the country is used to fund the program.
