With assistance from the Philippine Embassy in Jordan, five Filipinos managed to get out of West Bank, and will arrive in the Philippines on Friday, November 24.
The embassy said that the two overseas Filipino workers and Filipino family of three decided to return to the Philippines due to the increasing level of violence in the West Bank caused by conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Transportation, provided by the embassy, fetched the Filipinos in their respective residences in the West Bank, and brought them to the Allenby border crossing on the Israeli side.
Led by Philippine Ambassador to Jordan Wilfredo Santos, the embassy facilitated the entry of the Filipinos to Jordan, and they crossed the King Hussein Bridge, the border of the West Bank and Jordan, on Wednesday, November 22.
The Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Department of Migrant Workers shouldered the airplane tickets of the Filipinos for their return to the Philippines.
The embassy said that Santos also met with King Hussein Border Authority Head Col. Rafat Al Maietah to express their gratitude, and to discuss the possible crossing of more Filipinos from the West Bank.
The embassy said that a total of 115 Filipino nationals remain in the West Bank, including nine nuns, 21 OFWs, and 85 resident Filipinos.
