Five high-ranking officials of the Department of Education (DepEd) tendered their resignation letters to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday, July 16, ahead of a leadership change at the agency.

Sen. Juan Edgardo "Sonny" Angara as the new DepEd Secretary will assume his post this week following the resignation of Vice President Sara Duterte in June.

The five DepEd executives who filed a resignation are as follows:

  1. Michael T. Poa - Undersecretary and Chief of Staff
  2. Nolasco A. Mempin - Undersecretary for Administration
  3. Sunshine A. Fajarda - Assistant Secretary - Office of the Secretary
  4. Reynold S. Munsayac - Assistant Secretary for Procurement
  5. Noel T. Baluyan - Assisstant Secretary for Administration

Same as Duterte, their resignations will be effective on July 19, 2024.

"For me: I Think it is only appropriate to give incoming Secretary of Education, Secretary Angara, a free hand to choose the people that will form part of his team," Poa told DZRH News.

The former Undersecretary and Chief of staff said that a turn-over ceremony would be held at the DepEd office on July 18.
