Five people have died as a result of a flood-related accident in Palawan, which continues to feel the impact of the shear line.
The victims were passengers of a van swept away by floodwaters in Aborlan, on Sunday, said the Palawan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
The Aborlan local government unit (LGU) reported that the shuttle van, carrying 12 passengers, had fallen from a bridge at around 8 PM.
According to a report on Magandang Umaga Pilipinas, the seven other passengers survived the tragedy.
Meanwhile, the bodies of four victims have also been recovered. On February 10, the bodies of two young boys, Jamsarie Nasad, aged 9, and MC Jao, 6, were found.
At 5:30 AM of the following day, the van was discovered in Sitio Marambwaya, Barangay Kamuning in Puerto Princesa City, which prompted a recovery attempt. Responders retrieved the remains of Jamal at Evelyn Nasad, who were a married couple.
On Tuesday, Aborlan was declared under a state of calamity. Torrential downpours and heavy flooding have wreaked “significant damage” within the municipality, said its local government.
