A 4.7 magnitude earthquake struck Currimao, Ilocos Norte early on Thursday, October 17, as reported by PHIVOLCS.

According to the state seismologists, the quake originated from a tectonic event at 2:32 a.m. at a depth of 16 kilometers.

The following intensities were observed in nearby areas:

• Intensity IV: Batac, Currimao, Paoay, and San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte; Sinait, Ilocos Sur
• Intensity III: City of Laoag, Ilocos Norte

PHIVOLCS also stated that no damage or aftershocks are expected.
