The Philippine National Police (PNP) will deploy up to 4,400 policemen for the 2023 FIBA ​​World Cup that will be held in the country starting August 25.

PNP Spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said the police are ready to provide security for airports and hotels where FIBA participants will stay.

“All systems go we are expecting a crowd on August 25 when the FIBA Basketball World Cup opens. Sa ngayon po ay patuloy pa rin po iyong ginagawang contingency planning ng PNP pero minor details na lamang po ito dahil in place na po iyong ating security preparation and deployment for the opening of the FIBA Basketball World Cup,” said Fajardo.

She said that the Armed Forces of the Philippine (AFP), Philippine Coast Guard, Red Cross, Department of Health (DOH), and force multipliers will be deployed.

Fajardo added that they assured that they have enough personnel to accomodate the expected influx of people.

"There will be a volume of people, we expect that we will place sufficient personnel to ensure the safety and security of not only our participants and delegates but also our audience who will watch the game," she said.

The FIBA ​​World Cup 2023 or Olympic Basketball will be held from August 25 to September 10 where the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia are co-hosts.

The Philippines will cover 15 countries in the group phase that will be held at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan; Smart Araneta Coliseum, Cubao, Quezon City and SM Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena in Pasay City.

The Philippine Arena will host the opening ceremony where the Philippines and the Dominican Republic will compete in the game.

The final phase will be held at the MOA Arena.
