The National Police Commission (Napolcom) has been asked by the five-man advisory panel entrusted with investigating the records and papers of 953 police officers in the service to subject the 36 top police officials to another round of screening.
According to PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo, an independent advisory council that evaluated and assessed the possible involvement of police officials in the illegal drug trade has recommended that the Napolcom conduct additional investigations against 36 senior police officers before recommending it to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
In a message, Fajardo said that they are scheduled to return the report to Napolcom, per the information she received from the secretariat.
She stated that 917 of the 953 total full-fledged police colonels and generals who filed courtesy resignations and had their records checked by the five-member advisory board were "cleared."
Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. and the local government had previously called on all full-fledged police colonels and generals to file courtesy resignations in order to rid the police force of erring individuals, particularly those participating in the illegal drug trade.
Meanwhile, the arrest of Police Master Sergeant Rodolfo Mayo Jr. during a drug operation in Manila in October 2022 that yielded almost a ton of shabu prompted Abalos' move.
