According to Bontoc Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Johanna Padaen, a malfunction occurred on the jeepney’s brakes and steering wheel when it collided with the side of the mountain.

Moreover, the members of the Bontoc Response Team, Bontoc Fire Station, and Bontoc Municipal Police Station responded to the incident, rescued the victims, and conducted first aid.

One of the passengers explained that the jeepney that came from Maligcong and the vehicle were uncontrollably accelerated due to brake failure, which made the driver intentionally crash the jeepney into the mountainside along Sac-Angan, Caluttit, to prevent a more severe incident.
