In commemoration of the 52nd anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law in the country, 332 candles were lit on Saturday at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani, Quezon City to honor the martyrs who rose up against Marcos Sr.’s authoritarianism.

There were 21 other candle-lighting ceremonies which took place all at once, all over the country.

The Ninoy Cory Aquino Foundation’s Deputy Executive Director Kiko Aquino Dy underscored that government officials should not act without regard for the public, should not feel entitled to certain things, and must always keep in mind that in a democracy, power primarily belongs to their constituents.
