More Filipinos remain in hotels and shelters in Egypt after escaping conflict-torn Sudan and awaiting repatriation to Manila, according to Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Affairs Eduardo de Vega on Saturday.

Three weeks of battle between Sudanese Armed Forces soldiers and Rapid Support Forces soldiers have resulted in hundreds of casualties—two forces that were once linked while overthrowing previous President Omar al-Bashir in a coup.

According to De Vera, some 50 other Filipinos from Port Sudan have also arrived in Saudi Arabia.

They also thanked the Saudi authorities for sending military vessels to evacuate individuals.

So far, at least 179 Filipinos have been repatriated to the Philippines from Sudan.

Nonetheless, at least 100 Filipinos remain in Sudan to this day.

Meanwhile, Migrant Workers Secretary Susan Ople earlier said that some American and Saudi Arabian companies are considering taking in Filipino workers displaced by the conflict in Sudan.
