The Department of Health (DOH) reported on Sunday that three new mpox cases have been identified in the Philippines, bringing the total case count to 17, with 8 of those currently active.

The DOH mentioned that the three newly detected mpox cases were from Metro Manila and one from Calabarzon, all of which have tested positive for MPXV clade II, a milder strain of the virus.

Mpox case 15 is a 29-year-old male from the National Capital Region (NCR) who developed rashes, swollen neck lymph nodes, a sore throat, muscle pain, and noticeable weakness, with symptoms starting on August 21.

He reported having one close contact but had engaged in anonymous sexual activities before the symptoms began. As of now, he remains in home isolation.

Furthermore, mpox case 16 is a 34-year-old male from NCR who developed rashes, blisters, a cough, fatigue, and swollen lymph nodes, with symptoms starting on August 27.

The patient had sexual contact with three individuals, and contact tracing is still ongoing. He is completing his isolation at home following his release from a health facility.

The 17th mpox case is a 29-year-old male from Calabarzon who began with a fever on August 19. His symptoms progressed to include rashes or vesicles on his face, torso, arms, legs, and soles, along with headaches, muscle aches, and swollen lymph nodes in his neck.

The patient had close intimate contact with a sexual partner who may have exhibited similar skin symptoms during the same period. Additionally, two close contacts within the household have been identified.
