Up to three million passengers are expected to pass through the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) during the Holy Week exodus, according to terminal officials.

PITX Corporate Communications and Government Relations Head Jason Salvador said the figure remains an initial estimate and could still increase as the peak travel period approaches. From the current daily average of 175,000 passengers, the number may climb to as high as 200,000 per day at the height of Semana Santa.

Salvador attributed the projected surge to an increase in northbound trips and the operational impact of the Light Rail Transit Authority’s LRT-1 Cavite Extension, which directly connects more commuters to the integrated terminal, improving accessibility for travelers from Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

Holy Week, one of the country’s busiest travel seasons, traditionally sees millions of Filipinos returning to their home provinces for religious observances and family vacations. Transport authorities anticipate peak passenger volume from Holy Wednesday through Good Friday, with return trips expected on Easter Sunday and the following Monday.

To address the influx, PITX management is coordinating with regulatory agencies to issue special permits for additional public utility vehicles (PUVs), ensuring enough buses and modern jeepneys are deployed on major provincial routes.

The terminal is also strengthening security measures, including increased deployment of personnel, intensified baggage inspections, and closer coordination with local law enforcement, to maintain order and passenger safety throughout the holiday rush.
