Three individuals were arrested in Bulacan for the human trafficking of human organs on Tuesday, July 17.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) reported that they were arrested in a “rescue operation” at San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, where nine victims were rescued. Besides the mentioned individuals, the fourth suspect identified is a head nurse at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI). The NBI suspects him to be the ringleader and has yet to be caught.
Following the arrest of the individuals, complaints regarding people who are engaged in kidney trafficking flooded the NBI-National Capital Region.
According to them, the suspects facilitated the transfer of the victims’ kidneys to their clients for PHP200,000. A down payment must first be given before being taken to the house where the transplants were performed.
Victims were turned over to the custody of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
The three suspects would face proceedings for the violation of Section 4 (h) of Republic Act No. 11862, or the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act.
