Three Filipino fishermen reportedly died after their boat was rammed by an unidentified foreign commercial vessel, about 190 nautical miles (NM) west of Infanta, Pangasinan.
In an incident report from the Philippine National Police (PNP) released on Wednesday, Oct. 4, three crews of the fishing vessel FFB DEARYN, including its boat captain, died after the collision incident that occurred at 4:20 AM on Monday, Oct. 2.
The three victims, who are all from Brgy. Calapandayan in Subic, Zambales, were identified as:
- Dexter Laudensia (boat Captain), 47 years old
- Romeo Mejico, 38 years old
- Benedick Uladandria, 62 years old
Ten FFB DEARYN crew members, who also hail from Subic, Zambales, survived and reported the maritime incident on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
The 10 surviving members were identified as:
- Jhonny Manlolo, 40 years old
- Estelito Sumayang, 47 years old
- Mario An, 50 years old
- Mandy An, 22 years old
- Michael An, 37 years old
- Gino Arpon, 30 years old
- John Michael Nogas, 37 years old
- Noriel Tolores, 27 years old
- William Asontista, 39 years old
- Darwin Mejia, 32 years old
- Reymark Bautista, 30 years old
The PNP said one surviving victim, Jhonny Manlolo reported that they were at approximately 190 NM West of Infanta, Pangasinan when "they encountered sea mishap with an unidentified Southbound commercial vessel navigating the area causing heavy damage on the starboard side outtrigger of FB DEARYN eventually capsizing it."
The three crewmen died due to "possible fatal head trauma", PNP added.
In a report by RH Christian Maño, the surviving crew members have transported the remains of the three slain Filipino fisherfolks in Infanta, Pangasinan.
As of this writing, the authorities have yet to identify the foreign commercial vessel.
