Three areas were placed under Signal No. 2 as Typhoon Betty moves toward the East of Aparri in Cagayan province.

In its 5 AM bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) hoisted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 in the following areas:

  • Batanes
  • The Eeastern portion of Babuyan Islands (Babuyan Is., Camiguin Is., Didicas Is., Pamuktan Is.)
  • The northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Ana)

Meanwhile, several areas are still under TCWS No. 1:

  • The rest of the Babuyan Islands
  • The rest of mainland Cagayan
  • Isabela
  • Quirino
  • The northeastern portion of Nueva Vizcaya (Kasibu, Quezon, Solano, Bagabag, Diadi, Villaverde, Bayombong, Ambaguio), Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Ilocos Norte, the northern and central portions of Aurora Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan, Dipaculao, Baler)
  • Polillo Islands
  • The northern portion of Catanduanes (Caramoran, Viga, Gigmoto, Panganiban, Bagamanoc, Pandan)
  • The northeastern portion of Camarines Sur (Caramoan, Garchitorena, Lagonoy, Tinambac, Siruma)
  • The northern portion of Camarines Norte (Vinzons, Paracale, Jose Panganiban, Capalonga, Talisay, Daet, Mercedes, Basud)

As of 4 AM, Typhoon Betty was located 525 km East of Aparri, Cagayan with a maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 190 km/h, and central pressure of 950 hPa. It is moving Northwestward at 20 km/h.

In a press briefing, PAGASA Weather Specialist Obet Badrina said Typhoon Betty is forecasted to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Friday evening or Saturday morning.

He said there is a possibility that Signal No. 3 will be hoisted in Batanes by Wednesday as the Typhoon will remain stationary or it will slow down.

Bardrina noted that marine gale warning remain in effect over the areas of Batanes, Cagayan, Northeastern cost of Ilocos Norte, Babuyan Island, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon including Polilo Islands, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, and Sorsogon.

"Etong mga binanggit kong lugar ay delikadong maglayag 'yung maliliit na sasakyang pandagat at maliit na bangka dahil malalakas na alon ang inaasahan natin," he said.

Meanwhile, the PAGASA Weather Specialist said Typhoon Betty may enhance the Southwest Monsoon and may bring rains over western portions of Mimaropa and Western Visayas on Tuesday.

On Wednesday and Thursday, monsoon rains are also possible over Mimaropa, Western Visayas, the Western portion of Calabarzon, Central Luzon, and the Ilocos region.
