A Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) center in Las Piñas City was raided on Tuesday, where authorities rescued over 2,000 workers, including foreigners, from alleged human traffickers.
According to the Philippine National Police (PNP), 1,525 of the casualties were Filipinos, with the remainder hailing from China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar, Taiwan, and Singapore, among other countries.
The raid began after the PNP's anti-cybercrime unit obtained a warrant to search, seize, and analyze computer data stored in a POGO compound.
The document, which was made public on Tuesday, authorized police to take communications and computer data related to a probable breach of the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012.
PCapt Michelle Sabino, the spokesman for the PNP-Anti-Cybercrime Group, stated that the workers claimed to be from an online casino and worked from 12:00 p.m. until midnight.
According to the official, only a few of the workers were allowed to go, believing that those without papers or identification were excluded.
The POGO compound offers board and accommodation, according to the PNP. In terms of salary, Chinese nationals received roughly 40,000 per month, while other nationals, including Filipinos, received only 24,000 per month.
It was said that the victims were recruited using online postings.
