The Department of Education (DepEd) is expecting more than two million students from private and public schools as the School Year (SY) 2023-2024 formally opens today, August 29.
According to DepEd's latest Learner Information System (LIS) Quick Count released on August 28, the total number of enrollees nationwide has reached 22,676,964.
Three regions had the highest number of enrollees recorded, these are:
- Calabarzon - 3,465,598
- Central Luzon - 2,586,926
- National Capital Region (NCR) - 2,480,970
Other regions that reach the one million mark are Ilocos, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Davao.
Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) had the lowest number of students enrolled for this school year with 351,797.
The education department said learners under Alternative Learning System (ALS) may officially register within their barangay, community learning center, or nearest public school.
