Super Typhoon Uwan has reportedly left two dead and two injured in the Philippines, authorities said Monday, although the figures are still being verified by local disaster offices.
The fatalities were reported in Catanduanes, Samar, and Ilo-ilo, according to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD). Deputy Administrator Asec. "Reportedly 1 dead in Viga, Catanduanes due due to drowning, the other one in Catbalogan City, Samar na nadaganan ng collapsed structure," Asec. Alejandro said.
"The two other injured individuals [ay] isa sa Bato (Catanduanes) at isa sa Ilo-ilo. Ito 'yong nahulog while fixing his roof," he added.
Despite the typhoon moving off the Philippine landmass, its effects continue to be felt across the country. Authorities have pre-emptively evacuated around 426,000 individuals, or roughly 1.4 million people, from high-risk areas in Regions CAR, I, II, III, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, V, VI, NIR, VII, and VIII.
Of those evacuated, 92,000 people are staying in 6,000 evacuation centers, while another 50,000 individuals are displaced but receiving assistance outside these facilities.
The storm has affected 2,700 barangays, impacting 231,000 families or 831,000 people nationwide.
Critical infrastructure has also been disrupted: 155 cities and municipalities remain without power, 13 areas report water supply interruptions, and 14 areas have communication outages.
Authorities continue to urge residents to remain vigilant, warning that heavy rains, strong winds, and localized flooding remain threats even as the typhoon Uwan moves out of the landmass.
