The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) recognized two sophomore students for their "heroism" after they performed first aid to a woman who was attacked by his live-in partner while selling fruits on a downtown sidewalk.

University of Cebu (UC) students named Angyl Faith Ababat and Kristianne Joice Ona attended the flag-raising ceremony at the CCPO ground in Camp Sotero Cabahug as they were given an award and plaque of recognition from the city police chief, Colonel Ireneo Dalogdog.

In his message, Dalogdog said that the nursing students set a good example to the younger generation regarding extending help without any doubt, emphasizing that Ababat and Ona are the best examples that anyone can become a hero by helping others.

On January 30, the nursing students were present in the downtown area to look for materials they needed for their school presentation when a man named Edwin Lumacad slashed the neck of her live-in partner, Bernardita Zamora, while there were people who witnessed the scene.

In shock, people ran away after seeing Zamora holding her bloodied neck, while Ababat and Ona performed a first aid procedure on the victim's wound by applying pressure using a T-shirt.

With their act of heroism, UC's college of nursing dean, Mercy Milagros Apuhin, said in a press conference that she will be endorsing both students for a scholarship program.
