Two motorbancas were apprehended after being spotted conducting illegal fishing activities more or less three nautical miles away from the shoreline of Maripipi, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Wednesday, March 6.
Citing Coast Guard District Eastern Visayas' report, PCG said the two fishing vessels were carrying six fishermen engaging in unauthorized fishing.
"While underway the vicinity waters of Maripipi, the patrol team spotted the (2) two bancas, each weighing less than (3) three gross tonnages, caught on act fishing illegally," Coast Guard District Eastern Visayas said.
Personnel of Brgy. Binungto-an as well as Bantay Dagat Municipality of Maripipi discovered that the motorbancas were utilizing the net method locally known as "pamo," which is a violation of Municipal Ordinance 2011-01 Article VII Section 76, or transient fishing.
PCG said that the apprehended fishermen and two fishing motorbancas were handed over to Maripipi Port for disposition and documentation before being turned over to the Municipal Agriculture Office.
