The two reported missing environmental activists have surrendered to the custody of the government, the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) confirmed on Friday, September 15.

NTF-ELCAC confirmed that the two activists, who were linked to the rebel group New People’s Army, surrendered to the Philippine Army’s 70th Infantry Battalion (70IB).

They were identified as activists Jhed Tamano, 22, and Jonila Castro, 21, who yielded to authorities in Doña Remedios Trinidad, Bulacan, on September 12.

According to National Security Council (NSC) assistant director general Jonathan Malaya, Castro and Tamano are in good condition.

"Kung makikita po ninyo sa mga footages na ipinakita namin, mismong CHR ay nakipag-usap doon sa dalawang batang iyon at sila po ay nasa mabuting kalagayan," Malaya said.

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) also reached out to Tamano and Castro.

On September 6, Tamano and Castro decided to surrender at the Bataan Provincial Office, according to Police Captain Carlito Buco Jr.

It was September 3, when Anakbayan spokesperson Kate Almenzo pointed the finger that the Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and the NTF-ELCAC were behind the abduction.

According to NTF-ELCAC, the abduction accusations are just repeated propaganda by the leftist group.

Tamano and Castro were volunteers with the reclamation-opposing organization "Akap Ka Manila Bay" who were assessing the circumstances of the fishing villages in the North Manila Bay coastal towns that were affected by the reclamation projects.
