The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported that two foreign-flagged vessels collided in waters off Corregidor Island on Friday, resulting in the deaths of a Filipino and a Chinese national.
The dredger, MV Hong Hai 189, which came from Botolan in Zambales, collided with a chemical and oil product tanker, MV Petite Souer, which originated from Mariveles, Bataan.
The PCG stated that the Filipino casualty was a safety officer on board MV Hong Hai 189.
Out of the 20 crew members of the ship, 15 were saved, but three Chinese nationals are still missing. Four Filipinos were among the 15 who were rescued.
On the other hand, all 21 crew members of MV Petite Souer were reported to be safe and sound.
After receiving a report that MV Hong Hai 189 had capsized, the PCG dispatched its BRP Capones to the area.
