Two consecutive earthquakes struck Gigmoto, Catanduanes on Saturday morning, June 22, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

At 8:41:55 a.m., PHIVOLCS observed a magnitude 5.5 earthquake east of Gigmoto, Catanduanes, with a depth of 10 kilometers.

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake once again occurred in the same area at 8:41:57 a.m. with a depth of 59 kilometers.

Both earthquakes originated in tectonic.

The state seismologist said no damage is expected, but aftershocks might occur.
