A total of 1,995 aspiring candidates for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) received show-cause orders from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Sunday, Sept. 25, to explain their involvement in early campaigning.
The Comelec said out of the almost 2,000 BSKE candidates who were called to explain, only 228 responded.
In its initial assessment, 66 bets were facing disqualification cases, while the certificates of candidacy (COCs) of the 91 candidates were junked for the alleged lack of a proper basis.
Comelec reminded BSKE aspirants to comply with the election code and carry out their respective election campaigns during the scheduled campaign period that will officially run from October 19 to 28.
Under Section 80 of the Omnibus Election Code (OEC), aspiring candidates risk receiving a disqualification case by engaging in premature campaigning.
