President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the recognition of mining companies that promote proper environmental stewardship. Thirteen companies were awarded the Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award during a ceremony held at Malacañang today, October 16.
In his speech, Marcos urged those in the mining industry to continue practicing responsible mining and instructed the DENR to strengthen mining regulations to ensure compliance with high safety and environmental standards.
“It is imperative that we adopt meaning practices that prioritize environment. To ensure that our extraction processes are clean, efficient, and restore the land that has been mined," said Marcos.
“We must also foster innovation by driving research into new methods of mineral processing. Methods that reduce waste and energy consumption," he added.
Seven companies received awards in the Surface Mining Operations category, including Cagdianao Mining Corporation, CTP Construction and Mining Corporation, Eramen Minerals, Inc., Hinatuan Mining Corporation – Tagana-an Nickel Project, FCF Minerals Corporation, Zambales Diversified Metals Corporation, and Taganito Mining Corporation.
Four companies were recognized in the Quarry Operations category, including Republic Cement & Building Materials, Inc. – Batangas, Eagle Cement Corporation, Helix Resources and Development Corporation, and Republic Cement & Building Materials, Inc. – Teresa.
Meanwhile, Coral Bay Nickel Corporation and Philippine Mining Service Corporation – Alcoy Plant received recognition in the Mineral Processing category.
The PMIEA is an annual award given by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau.
It evaluates not only the companies' compliance with environmental regulations but also the excellence of their mining operations, commitment to community development, and consistency in their best practices.
