A total of 12 persons were trapped for almost an hour inside an elevator in a condominium located in Barangay West Crame, San Juan City on Saturday night.
According to the initial report from the Bureau of Fire Protection, the people trapped inside the elevator were going to their condo from the basketball court when the elevator suddenly malfunctioned, trapping them inside.
The victims urgently called for a response, and thanks to the signal they got inside the said elevator and contacted their friends who were outside.
Rescuers first looked for the elevator's manual, however, the building's maintenance was not able to locate it, pushing the BFP to forcibly open the elevator's door.
The BFP said that overloading caused the elevator to malfunction and advised the tenants to ask for urgent help.
It also said to stay calm, stay away from the elevator's door until rescuers come, and don't forget to use the emergency signal from the elevator.
