A total of twelve passengers aboard on Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight from Los Angeles to Manila were injured due to the severe turbulence of the plane before landing at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
In a statement by PAL on Monday, Aug. 29, Flight PR113 experienced turbulence two hours before it landed.
Nine passengers and three crew were reported injured.
It said that out of the twelve, only one passenger is still confined at the hospital while others were discharged after treatment.
The airport management ensured that it will shoulder the medical expenses of the injured passengers.
“We are in the process of reaching out to the affected passengers and coordinating passenger wellness,” it said.
PAL said the turbulence was not detectable on the aircraft’s onboard weather radar system, which is why there was no prior warning advised to passengers.
“We affirm that safety is our top priority and that Philippine Airlines is fully cooperating with the concerned airport and aviation authorities,” it underscored.
