About 12 houses collapsed in Brooklyn. Isla Puting Bato in Tondo, Manila, on Sunday night.

According to Arnel Angeles, Director of the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO), the incident happened after 5:00 p.m. but was reported after 6:30 p.m.

At least 12 families were immediately evacuated and temporarily taken to the Delpan evacuation center.

Interviewed by RH 29 Boy Gonzales, one of the survivors, named Judith Arce, said that the owner of the house they were renting was repairing the foundation of the shacks when the house suddenly collapsed until it slid toward the sea.

“Natutulog kami ng anak ko, narinig namin na nagpupukpok ang may-ari ng bahay sa ilalim. Ginagawa niya pala ang mga tukod, kasama ang isa pa naming kapitbahay,” Judith narrated.

“Hindi ko lang pinansin dahil akala ko kung ano lang yun. Maya-maya, bigla na kaming parang dinulas lahat sa dagat kasama ang mga gamit namin at bahay namin lumubog lahat,” she continued.

No casualties have been recorded because the children were playing outside the house when the incident happened.

Angeles said that the Manila LGU will tackle the plan for the residents, particularly the issue of housing.
