In a major step to address overcrowding at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City, 100 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were transferred to the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro on Saturday night, October 12.
According to Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr., the transfer was executed with the help of 30 corrections officers, supported by BuCor’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, the Philippine National Police (PNP), and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) patrol units.
Among the transferred inmates, 20 came from the Reception and Diagnostic Center (RDC), while 80 were from the Medium Security Camp.
The transfer, which began late Saturday evening, concluded successfully with the inmates’ safe arrival at the SPPF in the early hours of Sunday morning.
